MY FIREWORKS OPINION
I strongly think that fireworks should only be used in public displays. I feel this way because not everyone can afford fireworks and they are pretty expensive. One story that shows how dangerous home fireworks can be is about a 27-year-old male from Georgia who placed a firework the wrong way. He lifted it above his head and when it shot out it hit him in the neck and he sadly died. Last year there were 12,900 injuries and 8 deaths. One July, an 11-year-old boy was home alone in Kansas experimenting with fireworks and other explosive devices when a device blew up and a piece of metal went into his neck. He died sadly from the injury. On November 6, 2017, a mallard duck died from fireworks. People realized that the duck had fireworks shoved in its mouth and exploded, breaking off the beak. The local vet had to put it down sadly because it was in so much pain.
New Zealand does not need to have fireworks on a British event day like Guy Fawkes Day. We should have fireworks sold on a day important to New Zealand like Waitangi Day. The cost of a bag of fireworks from The Warehouse is 63 dollars. This bag only contains 27 fireworks. Families should spend that money on food.
So from all of these horrible and scary accidents after using fireworks we now know that people should not sell fireworks in stores and be let off in your backyard. If you have pets keep them inside otherwise they could get scared and flip out. If you really really want to set off some fireworks, always keep a bucket of water of a hose nearby.
Great work Maggie, You have so many stories that back up your opinion. This really makes me thing twice before buying fireworks.
